In the article "Pipe Bombs His Hobby" by the associated press it talks about a 56 year old anesthesiologist who made pipe bombs as a hobby. He said that he only blew them up in secure remote areas. Previous neighbors stated that he was against the government. He also admitted to binge drinking, depression, and drug abuse. This could be dangerous for everyone around him. Authorities said they seized about 35 pipe bombs in his apartment.

In the article "Who Needs a Resume? Tweet Earned Him a Job" by Eve Tahmincioglu she talks about how Hal Thomas got a job just by tweeting. He got the job by showing a sense of humor and showing his perspective on social media. The company that offered the job was BFG communications. This matters because it shows us what can be done with social networks. A simple tweet could land you a job.

A 53 year old woman was arrested for hitting her boyfriend in the face with a raw steak. They were arguing over bread. He wanted a bread roll but she gave him a slice. Every time he refused the slice she would slap him. When it was all over she was arrested for the abuse of a disabled adult. Why she would him him in the face I don't know but that is crazy.

In the article "Nearly 10,000 U.S. Deaths Caused by Swine Flu" by CDC, it talks about how more people are dying from H1N1. About 1 in 6 Americans have been infected. Since October the amount of infections has increased tremendously. 1,1oo children and 7,500 young adults died mid November. 50 million Americans have been infected. This matters because I don't want to get it and it shows that immunity is important.

29 years ago today John Lennon was murdered. He was shot in front of his apartment in Manhattan. He was killed when he was with his wife Yoko Ono. He was cremated and Yoko Ono decided not to have a funeral. Why do you think he was killed? What consequences do you think his killer deserved?

In the article "Put Forth Our Best Writing Selves" by Douglas Hesse, his main point is that writing is being used well with Twitter and Facebook but some of the writing needs to be done on more important things.

In the article "Footprints in the Digital Age" by Will Richardson it discusses how digital footprints affect students. Blogging, for example, is good for your digital footprint because it shows what kind of work you can do. This matters to me because I blog a lot for English and it shows what I have learned and how it affects the world around me. Social networks can have a negative affect on your digital footprint because saying things about someone or your job will come back to haunt you. This article really shows how much people rely on technology. For communication, research or anything really people always go to the internet.

In the article "pedestrian ID'd in Fatal Aurora accident" by Kieran Nicholson, it talks about how a 42 year old man was killed in a car accident. A 17 year old boy hit the man at 7:00 p.m. last night. The man wasn't walking on the sidewalk and the boy even tried to avoid hitting him. When the car did come in to contact with the man, the boy immediately got out to help. I think kthat it wasn't the boy's fault because the man should of been on the sidewalk and paye attention to what was going on.

In the article "Tough Times: 3 in 4 Denverites in Survey Stressed" by the Denver Post, it states that most metro residents are extremely stressed. 80% said they were stressed about work. Job stability worried 53% of metro residents. This does not provide a very positive outlook for a freshman that will be getting a job soon.

In the article "Focus donates $115,266 to Fight Against Gay Marriage in Maine" by the Denver Post's associated press it talks about how the Focus On the Family conservative christian group donated $115,266 to Maine so that Gay men cannot get married. I think that this is way too much of a donation to something going on in another state. People in Maine should be the ones deciding whether they want gay marriage legal or not. Why is a Christian group located in Colorado Springs Colorado so worried about that. They don't even live in Maine. That is a lot of money that could of gone to something more important and in Colorado.

In the article "Pet Dogs In Japan- Love Them and Leave Them... in a Gas Chamber" by Sophie Team Observers it talks about how dogs in Japan and all over Europe are being killed in gas chambers because they don't have a home. 1,000-1,200 are being killed everyday! This makes me furious because I love dogs and if they don't have a home we should find one for them. Although Europe thinks gassing is inhumane and lethal injection is preferred gassing is still practiced even in the U.S. The intergovernmental Terrestrial Animal Health Standards Commission doesn't recommend it they still believe its acceptable. I don't understand how people can just kill the creatures. It is very cruel and not the least humane. If you would like to see how monstrous this is watch this video. Just a heads up it is in Japanese.

In Karl Fisch's "Did You Know 4.0" it tells youhow technology is playing a role in everyday things. Advertising has become amlost completely done over some kind of technology. Everything is done on handheld devices. Some people use this technology wrong and use it for bad things. 95% of music downloaded last year was downloaded illegally. I think that the technology we have is great but should be used correctly. President Obama was smart and used social networks to aid him in his campaign. This was a really great video and I learned a lot from it.

PLN 8

In the video "A Vision of Students Today" by Dr. Wesch, it tells us what it is like being a student today and how technology plays a big role. Students send more emails than they do actually write things out. The connection between this video, Karl Fisch's "Did You Know?", and Dr. Wesch's other video is that technology is becoming the base for everything. These videos show what affects technology is going to have on students. Technology is becoming smarter and we need to same.

PLN 4

In the video "Web 2.0 ... The Machine is us/ing us" by Dr. Wesch , what mattered to me is that technology is starting to take over more and more things. It is becoming smarter than we expected. Everything we do on the computer the machine learns from. They are becoming more like humans every second. Machines will get so smart they will take over jobs that humans do and eventually become smarter than the human race.

In the article "This Would Be Really Weird" by David Warlick, it tells us that men have lost many jobs but women have actually gained more jobs. Women lost 1.66 million jobs but men lost 4.75 million jobs. Men have lost 74% of the 6.4 million jobs erased during the recession. It is good that women are getting more jobs but I'm a guy and will need a job soon. The men need to step it up and give the women competition for jobs again. That is what i think about this article.

PLN 7

In the article "The Answer For Textbook Publishers" by David Warlick, he says that textbooks should be smaller, or digital so it can be put on an Iphone or Ipod. I think this would be a grat idea because textbooks are very large and heavy. It would be nice not to have to lug those giant books around. Having it in my pocket would be such a conveniance. Overall I agree with what he is saying and think this is a great article.

PLN 6

In the article "H1N1, Skype, and a Possible Tipping point" by Karl Fisch, he explains how Anne Smith is using Skype to stay connected to students who are sick. I think this is a great idea and it is even cooler because Anne Smith is my teacher. The article also tells the students willingness to be connected to class even when hey are sick. This is a great use of technology. That is what i think of this article.

In the article "The New Literacy" by Clive Thompson he speaks about how writing is becoming redefined by technology. I felt a little mad when someone said an age of illiteracy is at hand, because I believe it is the complete opposite. Technology is improving our writing because we all use it everyday. Everyone who uses social networks is constantly writing even if they are just updating their profile. One of the quickest ways of communication is texting. Texting is writing. That is how I felt about this article.

In the article "Women Raise Bar at colleges" by Tamar Lewin it explained how men are getting lower grades and less college opportunities than women. Men are studying less and socializing more. Some colleges are even accepting more men just because they want to balance out the men and women. I feel that men should be mad at this and try to get better grades. Men should show everybody that they can pull their own weight. That is how I feel about this article.

In Karl Fisch's "Did You Know" I was shocked when i heard that China had more honor students than we had kids. China is obviously doing something right. The U.S. needs to change what they are doing and try to get more like China when it comes to academics. I feel as if all the other nations are catching up and if we don't do anything about it now kids will struggle for jobs in the future. That is how I felt while watching Karl Fisch's "Did You Know".

Summer Reading

Over the summer I read The Prestige by Christopher Priest. I liked that it told both magician's stories. I learned that you shouldn't take competion to such drastic measures.

The second novel I read was The mist by Stephen King. I liked the whole idea of the mist shrouding the city and strange creatures living in it. I learned that you should always stick together when crazy things happen.
